Are electric skateboards waterproof?
No. No maker we read rates a board for immersion, and those that answer the question directly — Onewheel, Evolve, Backfire, Bajaboard, Maxfind, Verreal, Raldey — say “water-resistant”, not waterproof. Of the 20 brands whose official sites we read, 12 publish a water rating for the board — from IP53 (spraying water) to IP56 / IPX6 (powerful water jets), none of them rated for immersion — and 14 exclude or limit water damage in their warranty. Onewheel publishes no rating and does not cover water damage.

Quotes are copied from each brand's own product pages, FAQ or warranty, read on 2026-09-24. “Part only” marks a rating that the brand gives for one component — a battery case, the lights — and not for the board. “No rating published” means we did not find one on the pages we read.
What this page does not tell you
It does not test anything. A published rating is the maker's claim; seals age, and several makers say themselves that water resistance drops with use. We could not reach official sites for 13 other brands, so they are not listed. The whole survey is available as data: waterproof-ratings.json (CC BY 4.0).
Questions this raises
Can you ride an electric skateboard in the rain?
Most makers say not to. Evolve: “Can I ride it in the rain? No. Not waterproof.” Verreal: “Verreal boards are not water proof. We recommend our customers stay away from puddles and wet or icy surfaces.” Meepo calls its IPX5 boards “Ready for light rain and wet streets” but its FAQ adds “warranty doesn't include water damage”. Read the rating as protection against splashes, not permission to ride through water.
Is a Onewheel waterproof?
No. Future Motion's FAQ: “Onewheels are water-resistant, not waterproof.” Its warranty: “Water damage is not covered under warranty.” It publishes no IP rating.
What does IP65 or IPX5 mean on an electric skateboard?
IP ratings come from the IEC 60529 standard. The first digit is protection against dust, the second against water; an X means that part was not rated. For water, 3 means spraying water, 4 splashes from any direction, 5 water jets, 6 powerful water jets, and 7 temporary immersion. No board we read claims 7 or more.
Does the warranty cover water damage?
Usually not. 14 of the 20 warranties we read exclude or limit it. Tynee is the exception we found: its policy offers a free replacement power button when water gets into it.
Which electric skateboard has the highest water rating?
For water, the second digit decides. The highest we read is 6 — IP56 (Ownboard's higher-end boards, Meepo's FAQ) and IPX6 (Tynee Mini 2). The IP65 boards (Backfire's product pages, Onsra, Ritmic, Raldey's WASP) have the same water digit, 5, as IP55 and IPX5; their 6 is for dust. IP67 and IP68 appear on some sites, but only for a battery case, not the board.
